Happy Art. Happy Kids

It’s such a thrill when someone new lands in our sparkly corner of the universe.

I’m so glad that your interest in children’s art guided you to us.

This page shares our story – how it all began plus I’ll point out all the resources our team has created to help you create an art program, share art with your children or even start an art business of your own.

The Beginnings

Teaching art to kids wasn’t part of my life plan. In fact, I fell into the glorious world of teaching art quite by luck.

With the help of a few referrals, this PTA mom without a teaching credential, stepped in front of a class of 30, 6th graders and taught an art class.

Quietly observing at the back table, the hiring teacher made notes. Lots of them. Happy, engaged kids meant a job.

I was thrilled to be offered the position. Little did I know back then, when tempera paint and kilns were foreign words to me, that I’d be a CEO of an art education company that serves teachers and parents all over the world.

Now, 20 years later, my husband Neil (AKA Mister Sparkle) and I run a company that provides art resources for both school and home.

You can read more about my story right HERE.

What we do

Our business began by sharing what I was teaching in the art room that worked – and what didn’t work. From my first blog post in 2009, teachers from around the world have shared their stories and struggles, asked for advice and direction.

Now 15 years later, we couldn’t be more proud to not only design lessons, but to be a supportive guide to art teachers around the world.

And while we create relevant resources, our mission is so much more than that.

We help to illuminate art teacher’s lives with personal check-ins, a compassionate community, tutorials and chats that get to the heart of teaching.

Our Art Freebie Packs + Lessons

Every month we offer free art resources. Our Monthly Project Guides of art projects are seasonally based, easy enough for non-artists to teach and fun for parents to do at home.

These free lessons are typical lessons I taught when art was new to me and my sole purpose was to enchant my students with magical techniques and engaging materials.

You can receive these monthly project guides in your inbox by adding your name here.

We also offer mini-workshops to help you learn how to teach art. Check our home page for the latest mini-workshop offerings or keep reading your weekly DSS emails to sign up for our next one.

The Sparklers’ Club

Art teachers today are busier than ever and have more on their plate than just an assortment of pastels and paints.

Art programs are rigorous and classes are short. Carving out time for lesson planning is becoming more and more difficult.

Our membership for art teachers is the first of its kind and is designed to lighten the load by offering innovative, kid-friendly and off-the-charts inspiring lesson plans.

We offer five curriculums plus a multitude of relevant trainings and organizational tools inside our art teacher membership.

To learn more about The Sparklers’ Club, you can download a free lesson and join our waitlist for our January and August enrollments.

Creative Juices Courses

Our short 3-4 week online courses provide teachers, studio owners and artsy parents with an invitation to build their skill set and get their creative juices flowing.

The first step is understanding how original lessons are created.

We believe that the exploration of art materials + art techniques that work for children = a successful art session.

Our team of experienced art teachers, working artists and art studio owners bring their best strategies and teaching advice each season of Creative Juices.

Primerry | Art Club for Kids

Not a crafty mom? Welcome to the club. While you may not believe it, my kids were far less interested in creating art at home than you might think.

I know first hand how daunting it can be to set-up a creative space, get out the supplies and convince your kids to create.

My vision with Primerry is to be no-fuss for parents and encourage young artists to be independent in their art routine.

The kid-friendly website allows them to easily find an episode they are interested in, gather their own supplies and follow along with my instructions. Once they’re done, I’ll even walk them through how to correctly put their art supplies away.

Hopefully, you just might get to pour yourself an afternoon tea and check on a few emails.

You can try an episode with Primerry right here.
